Technology Enhanced Learning Centre (TELC) Summer 2022 Newsletter 

This hands-on Newsletter is divided into four thematic areas: (1) Featured News, (2) Learning Technology Innovation, (3) E-Learning Content Development, and (4) Training and Disseminating Best Practice.

The Featured News’ section presents very important news and is strongly recommended reading. The first paper describes the critical importance for all Moodle users to accept all Cookies in Moodle, if they wish to get full access to all multimedia objects e.g. YouTube videos used in Moodle. Next, there is a paper on how to set up a rubric for your students in the Moodle assignment activity. Group student assignments with group messaging is discussed in the third paper, and the fourth paper announces the purchase of a new Camtasia site licence making Camtasia screen-capture software available for all faculty and for any staff who need to create multimedia content.

The Learning Technology Innovation section comprises articles on: 1. Moodle 4.0; 2. Using Miro for group brainstorming activities; 3. Utilizing Coggle as a dedicated brainstorming tool; 4. Microsoft Minecraft and how to activate it; 5. Making use of Padlet as a Wiki tool; 6. Useful Moodle Blocks to use.

In the E-Learning Content Development section there are a series of hands-on/practical papers on: Creative Commons licences, authoring content in Sway, how to record content in PowerPoint, how to screen capture in Camtasia. Also, there is an update on the future-proofing conversion project of Articulate Presenter lectures to MP4s.

The Training and Disseminating Best Practice section covers: (1) a recent Microsoft training event at UNIC, (2) a paper by Dr Efi Nisiforou, (3) ideas on a Technology Enhanced Learning Framework, (4) a recent two-day Engageli training visit at UNIC, (5) ePortfolio assessment by Pauline Porcaro, of PebblePad UK, and (6) the Journal of Teaching English with Technology Issue 2 2022 and new successes.

TELC offers training and support on the above technologies to faculty and staff. Moreover, it will be launching a new training webpage with this aim in mind in FALL 2022.

Create a Sway presentation and add weekly recordings, for instance. Also, students have Sway in their Office 365 accounts, so consider the option of Sway student assignments.

Use this technique to record your slideshow, your camera and annotate all at the same time.

Use Camtasia to record your screen, and yourself.
